ABOUT THE SPEAKER
An award-winning Senior Lecturer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in General Studies and Social Science, Dr. Asmawati Mohamad Ali is recognized for significant contributions to academia and innovation. Recent accolades include the Innovative Senior Lecturer & SME award (2025) from the World School Summit, inclusion in Britishpedia's Successful People in Malaysia and Singapore (2024), and the Asia's Best Academician Award (2023) by Asia Awards. Dr. Asmawati has also earned multiple Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals in international and national innovation competitions, notably for participation in Low Touch and High Impact (LOTHI) initiatives and for a Most-Liked Virtual Presentation on YouTube. Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Asmawati serves as a professional judge and expert panel member in education and social science research and innovation fields.
ABSTRACT
Title: Research and Innovation: From Local Insights to Global Impact
In today’s interconnected world, research and innovation are no longer confined to geographic boundaries. Local ideas, when nurtured with he right support systems and global perspectives, can transform into solutions with worldwide impact. This innovation talk session explores the dynamic journey of innovation — from grassroots initiatives addressing local challenges to drawing on real-world case studies, collaborative models, and interdisciplinary approaches, will examine how local contexts serve as fertile ground for innovation. The aims of talk sharing to inspire researchers, educators, and innovators to bridge the local-global divide and harness innovation as a force for shared progress.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sulaiman Mahzan is a senior lecturer in Computer Science at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, and a passionate advocate for innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He has over two decades of experience in academia, having taught more than 40 different courses across computing and AI disciplines. As an active innovator, he has contributed to over 100 innovation products and exhibitions, and received dozens of awards including gold, silver, and special recognition both nationally and internationally. He has mentored school and university teams to victory in innovation competitions, and led community-focused projects combining AI, gamification, and educational empowerment. He is an OCIIP-certified international jury and has served as judge for more than 200 local and international innovation competitions, including jury for the United Nation's World Summit Awards and ASTRO’s Innovathon (since season 1-2023 until now) on national television. He currently heads the Advanced Soft Computing Research Interest Group and is pursuing a PhD in Artificial Intelligence at Universiti Tun Hussien Onn Malaysia.
ABSTRACT
Title: AI & Innovation: From Ideas to Ethics and Real-World Impact
In an era where artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how we live, learn, and create, the boundaries of innovation are expanding beyond traditional disciplines. This talk explores how AI can serve as a catalyst for innovative solutions across education, business, and community development, while also highlighting the ethical dilemmas and real-world responsibilities that come with it. Through real examples from award-winning projects, grassroots initiatives, and classroom experiments, the session will address the dual roles of inspiration and caution in AI-powered innovation. Participants will also gain insights into the challenges faced by innovators and judges alike, ranging from overreliance on AI tools, questions of originality, to the need for inclusive and responsible design. Ultimately, this session invites educators, students, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to rethink what it means to innovate in an AI-driven world and how to do so with purpose, creativity, and integrity.
